NHS Dentistry

Routine access

  • Patients can find an NHS dental practice using ‘Find a dentist’ on the NHS website. Unlike GP patients, dental patients are not registered to a particular practice or confined to a practice boundary and patients can travel for their NHS dentistry; it doesn’t have to be where they live.
  • The surgery hours that NHS dental services are available to patients will be unique to each contract and may differ from a practice’s opening hours. Some NHS dental practices may operate their services through a waiting list system.

Urgent access

  • If a patient does not have a regular NHS dentist or cannot find one and requires urgent dental treatment, they can access the NHS urgent care service via NHS 111.
